Controversy Erupts Over Assistant's Tweet on Murdered Priest

The Morena deputy, Patricia Armendáriz, became embroiled in controversy when commenting on the murder of priest Marcelo Pérez in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas. In a tweet, she expressed surprise about the source of the priest's assets and suggested that they could be related to organized crime, indicating that they did not come from donations from such a impoverished community.

In response to the backlash generated by her remarks, Armendáriz regretted that her attempt to inform was misinterpreted as an attack on the victim. The deputy explained that her intention was to shed light on the events that occurred in Chiapas and expressed respect for the Church and the family of Father Pérez. After the controversy erupted, she decided to delete the tweet and offer apologies.

Regarding the attack on Father Marcelo Pérez, the Attorney General's Office of Chiapas reported that it was perpetrated by a man identified as Edgar "N", who shot the priest four times while he was in his truck after officiating a mass. Following investigations, Edgar "N" was captured two days after the incident, fulfilling the arrest warrant against him.

The Attorney General's Office indicated that, following the tragic death of Father Pérez, the appropriate investigations were carried out to identify those responsible. Deputy Armendáriz, despite her experience in the Chiapas communities, received harsh criticism on social media for her comments, leading her to retract and acknowledge the negative impact of her words amid public outrage.
